Public events for the upcoming Summit on Nuclear and Climate Crises

Fri, 08/13/2021 - 12:18pm by webadmin

Update August 24: Link to global nuclear status event

Student Pugwash is co-sponsoring the upcoming Thinkers Lodge Summit on Nuclear and Climate Crises, organized by the Centre for Local Prosperity. More information from the Summit's announcement:

Since 2017, focused retreats of invited Thinkers have gathered to inspire others on paths forward for humanity’s role in the climate crisis and our relationship to our planetary home. It is now time for a larger and broader summit to grapple with and resolve the compounded complexities of the double existential crises that we face today.

We are gathering 24 leading voices and thought leaders on nuclear non-proliferation and effective adaptive responses to the climate crisis. Invitees will represent an inclusive mix of backgrounds and experiences with these issues. This Summit will be focused on cross-learnings between crisis areas, public awareness building, advocacy and multi-level means for change. A central theme of the Summit will be intergenerational partnership and dialogue.

Applications for the Summit are closed (although there will be additional Summits in 2022), but there are upcoming online events open to the public. We'll update this post when we have more information about dates and times, and how to get involved.

August 25: Webinar interview on global nuclear status with Kennette Benedict (Bulletin of Atomic Scientists), Tara Drozdenko (Outrider Foundation) and two members of Student Pugwash USA or International Student/Young Pugwash (TBD).

September 7: Webinar interview on climate modelling acceleration with James Abraham, Williams Rees and two climate youth leaders.

September 14: Webinar interview on youth, grief and bravery with both nuclear and climate youth leaders.

October 1: Livestreamed discussion with the Pugwash (Nova Scotia) High School student body

October 13: Follow-up Summit webinar with selected Thinkers
